Combat
In computer- or video-games, combat typically refers to violent conflict between two parties intended to establish dominance. Combat is traditionally armed using a variety of modern weaponry (e.g. guns, pistols, rifles, bazookas, etc.) but it can also sometimes include sword fights or even bare fists.
The size of the parties involved in combat may vary from 1-on-1, to full armies engaging in battle, including squad engagements. The type of engagement typically defines the game genre: first-person shooter, squad-based shooter, real-time strategy.
Challenges
- Adaptive Behavior
- The major challenge of combat is to adapt to the enemy, taking into account his actions to respond intelligently.
- Anticipation
- To gain advantage, it's typically necessary to predict the opponent and use a strategy that takes the most likely move(s) into account.
